Roberts R707 short wave problem

I have a Roberts R707 which works well on VHF, Long Wave and Medium Wave.
On the Short Wave position it doesn’t work at all.
Is this likely to be the SW switch, or something else ?

If you have background noise then it's probably because there isn't much on the band that it covers. If no noise then there may be a fault, since it works on MW & LW the transistors are probably ok i.e. Tin whiskers. If too crackly when changing band then switches will need a clean.

Yes, short waves can be very quiet during the day, but normally come alive after dark. You would need the telescopic aerial up for SW, and or an external long wire aerial plugged into the aerial socket.
But it may just be a dirty switch, give the switches a bit of exercise.

Thank you, all. I have just tried the 707 on Short Wave and it picks up a least one station,
even without the aerial erected.
Perhaps I’ll try again later on in the evening.

It’s good to have the Roberts fully working again.
It was restored by East Coast Wireless back in 2002.
One of the best sounding portable radios I have heard.
