Firstly, many thanks for allowing me to join your forum, much appreciated.
I've only been repairing/restoring valve radios for just over a year or so but have been in the electronics industry for over 40 years.
It's only now that I find myself with enough time to indulge.
I did have a weekend job when I was about 17-18 repairing guitar amplifiers, mainly valve, but as the transistor amps became more popular I lost interest.
I'm now more used to a multi-processor control system than valves! Although we do have hydraulic ones but they don't glow, if they do then run!
So far I've brought back to life a Bush DAC90A (got to start somewhere!), an HMV1115 (how/why did they put so many tubes on such a small chassis?!), an Etronics RA640 (which defied ALL the trader sheets of all its variants!), the latest one is a Bush VHF81 which I've only just had enough time to take the back off, looks clean-ish. There is another on the way, an unidentified possibly Graves battery 3 valver with speaker but no info anywhere about it.

As for your VHF81, a common fault with all Bush radios of this vintage was the contact rectifier going high resistance - best replaced with a silicon diode and suitable series resistor.

It sounds like you have more to sort than I have around. I have not looked for a while though so I could well have forgotton. Seriously, I tend to use old technology in new homebuilt designs than refurbishing old equipment though. You will find like minded people here though.

Thanks for the tip on the VHF81 Terry, much appreciated.
It still never ceases to amaze me that for a majority of the valve equipment still around you can still get the valves!
I've been asked to repair something about 2-3 years old & the parts are just not available.
