Restuffing capacitors

One of my older and favorite sets is fitted with Boi capacitors and they are finally going home, so a case of re-stuffing.  No problems getting capacitors for the job but more a case of making them secure so working on the basis of I'm going to have to gut the darn thing anyway I took basic dimensions of the old capacitor and re-designed for 3D printing.

Just remove the outer casing and slip over the print.

I would love a 3D printer, but would I get time to play? An invaluable tool for some jobs.

All of around 25p according to the software.

Hi.
Nice result. I would have liked a 3D printer had it been for the cost and what a doctor friend told me who has one. Apparently some of the filaments produce toxic fumes and are also carcinogenic, his printer is in a small room with extraction fans, admittedly his is used a lot as he makes models for a teaching hospital but he's adamant that some of the dangers are serious and not well publicised.

Interesting that all the ones on test were pretty open in design, mine is a closed lid model. Also, I prefer PLA over any of the more exotic plastics, tried ABS once and never again in an enclosed environment.

TCC "Metalmite" capacitor removed from the ViewMaster TV.   It might be just possible to restuff this 0.01mfd capacitor with a new hi-viz capacitor.
The ViewMaster TV was designed by  TCC engineer, Mr. Flack so it's only right the set retains as many TCC components as possible.

It is quite fiddly to get all the old foil out but it can be done. I have never done one of those thin ended ones though.

Something like that I'd be tempted to design up and 3D print the end caps.

One TV I was asked to look at had been "restored" with restuffed caps and the frame stage led me a merry dance. The restuffed caps looked beautiful on the outside but although the sleeve depicted the correct value the yellow caps inside were totally the wrong value, obviously the restuffer couldn't work out how to read values.
On further investigation virtually every cap in the set was wrong.
Fortunately many were salvaged and used in the correct positions, took an age to do though.
