Trying to fix the radio chassis in a 1937 MRG radiogram. I bought the 'gram simply for the Garrard RC4 record deck. This will be installed into the Pye 838 TV-radiogram. At present it has a Garrard RC60 record deck, nice unit but it is post-war. The Pye TV/RG was made in 1938.
The MRG radiogram is too good to chop up so I might as well repair it and fit the RC60 record deck. Or, a mirror lid TV project. I was initially keen on this but on reflection it might be a bit of a naff project. much better fix it as a radiogram. You never know I might find a home for it.
Anyway, back to the discussion about the radio chassis. It is equipped with a strange choice of valves. Instead of the usual British seven pin 4volt heater types it employs valves with 13 volt heaters. When I found the 'gram had only one valve present in the chassis, a Mullard HL13C triode. However, after powering up the chassis I find sure enough all the valves are 13 volts types. I guess the line up is: FC13C, VP13C, 2D13C, HL13C and PEN13C. 4volt HT rectifier. So far I've found a Tungsram VP13K, a near equivalent to the Mullard VP13C and a Brimar 7D5 which is not really a equivalent to the PEN13C but it has the same pin connections. Characteristics of the 7D5 are similar to the 6F6 and type 42. I'm finding that these 13volt valves are rather scarce.
Chassis is a bit rusty, see attachment.
