That's a very odd looking beast. Like a commonplace site transformer but with a blue 240V socket.

I have got a 250VA yellow isolating transformer. It has a BS1363 socket on it. I acquired it hard wired to a Variac and that is how it remains for portable use.

Fair enough but it's not a standard yellow site tranny inside. Those are wound as 55-0-55 with the centre tap earthed. The earth can be lifted if you want to use it as an isolating tranny but the output is still only 110V.

I didn't realise they made yellow trannys with 230V secondary.

The RS 230v ones are blue these days but for many years the were yellow, the same as site transformers. It was only the output socket that gave away which output voltage they gave. My own transformer is a yellow 500VA fitted with a BS1363 chassis type socket.

Is the output floating as it should be? No part of the secondary should be earthed. This is unlike site transformers where the centre tap is earthed.

Of the 3 similar transformers I have come across all had isolated secondaries. None had a centre tap so I assume centre point earthing was never considered as an option when the output was 230V.
