Philips capacitor

hi - I went to the tt sale at the museum Sunday and as usual bought loads of bits that looked good (house still not full)

I did get some caps but I cant follow the codes on the Philips ones.  they say 0.91/5/210, then on the next line KP 357 90085, then next line HQ   U9 (I think its U9 anyway)

any idea what the spec is? - the meter measures around 1uf but they are pretty big

Well, your 'about' 1uF reading would tie in with the actual value being 0.91uF but I can't make any sense of the rest of it. All the Philips part numbers I'm familiar with have 8 numbers in two groups of four.

Yes - Lawrence's link ties in this ebay listing which translates 0.047/5/250 as 0.047uF 250V 5%. Polypropylene.

The KP 357 appears to be the type number.

why are they so big? are they AC?

We can't tell how big they are from the photo. 1uF at 200V is going to be fairly big.

S correction cap from Philips KT3 I think.

Slightly chunky for the rating but not hugely so. Possibly it's intended for a line timebase where it's carrying a lot of pulsed current which would wreck a miniature component.
