Quality fuses

Hi.
I've decided to stock some better quality fuses, Here: http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/fuses...fuses.html Seems they are the bees knees.

Sounds like a good long term investment opportunity. Buy a load and store them until they become scarce then sell them for even more than you payed. The long term ageing process(like good wine) will obviously make them even more sonically correct than when new.

The other important thing is that if you get a short the bang they make is sonicly correct when they blow.
You should be able to hear the qualities of the faulty component.

I dont want start a daft argument but in theory fuses can have an effect on sound.
in some solid state amps there are fuses after the smoothing block in these if you scope the line after the fuse you will find the line is modulated with the music this is not good. a fuse should have zero resistance but then of course it would not blow. Rob T
if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand

A good amplifier would not need fuses after the smoothing capacitors. They have an electronic trip that turns the output transistors off.

Fuses can affect other things too. I once had to sort out an amp where someone had added individual fuses to the cathode circuits of all of the eight (!) output valves. They were trying to protect more expensive components from the effects of thermal runaway in individual valves (which was happening depressingly often). They didn't realise that in fact all there was in each cathode circuit was a 10ohm current sensor which fed the bias test socket on the top panel. The new fuse, along with its wiring and the holder contact resistance, added another couple of ohms to this cicuit. So all the valves were now being biased to run too cool. I think a pack of 100 of these Cooper-Bussmann fuses is a much better deal.
BTW, I assume the gold ones are rated at 13A ? Andy |
