I had a licence in the 60's early 70's but lost interest for one reason & another (G3TGJ)
It's only in the last few years or so (after quite a long illness) that my interest in things electronic has been rekindled & after looking at a couple of RSGB videos on the 'tube it seems as though things are getting back to the way they used to be but with more youngsters getting involve (good)
Now, am I reading this correctly that if I fill a form in & prove that I had a license (still got the old docs somewhere) I can pay a fee (£20 ?) & get back into things again ?
This "M" license seems easy to get & I suppose reflects the fact that you can buy everything you need & use it on a "plug & play" basis
The last 2 exams I took were a bit strange to say the least.
1......17th edition regs (2008)......................2 hours multiple guess on a screen allowed to have the book with you
2......2391 (Inspection/test/certification of electrical installations) 2 parts .........1 multiple guess & then part 2 that required you to think about given scenarios & give solutions with background/diagrams etc.... using things like pens & rulers I believe that only standard calculators were allowed (no scientific aids/mobile phones etc....)
I had thought exam 1 was a joke but there was only a 60% pass rate out of the people that took the "exam" at the same time as me
Exam 2 (which I quite enjoyed taking) had a pass rate of 35% at the time I took it, I found both pass rates quite disturbing
I do feel as though I have come back in from the cold as it were since I found this forum..................downside is that I'll have to swat up to try & catch up/remember all the stuff that I should know................... I think they call it "getting up to speed" these days
