Early 1970s PW multiband Radio

Over on UKVRRRDF I've posted some pictures of a multiband radio I built sometime in the early 70s.  The design was published in Practical Wireless, and I still have the magazines somwehere.  In the meantime does anyone remember who designed the set in question, which is built around Denco Plug-in Coils, in the red, blue & yellow 'T' series, features 1.6Mhz I.F. with an optional extra I.F. stage using a Crystal filter, and a BFO/Product Detector using OC44/45 transistors.  I can find no reference to it on the web.

Looks good, you will have to get it working again.
I built a similar one from Radio Constructor for my cousin's son. His son now uses it!

One day perhaps, Ed. As I noted over on UKVRRRDF, I have to find the missing I.F stage with Crystal Filter, possibly replace several OC170(AF117) transistors, and maybe a few other items before reassembly. Other things, not all radio related, are taking up too much of my time right now

Hi Strange co-incidence, looks like I've now got a very similar PW set. This one is full of whiskered AF*** types.
It has had the plug in coils wired in .

I haven't yet searched through my back issues of PW to find the ones with the constructional articles for that radio, which was shown built into a metal cabinet with a lid on the front cover, IIRC. No doubt, as with most PW projects, it had a name, too, but I don't remember that.

That's an earlier radio (and PW Issue), Terry. IIRC, the one I built was based on a design published in PW around 1972-73. I still have the relevant issues in a cupboard. Sometime I'll get the box concerned out and find them. THe Rotary Dial I fitted to mine was the same type as that used in the one used on the cover of the mag.
