I have just watched this BBC documentary and was annoyed by the addition of fake scratches to old cine film but was even more annoyed by the total insult to viewers' intellegence by the addition of the same moving scratches to still photo images!

Yes all of these things very much get on my goat.
Some TV footage you see is often very much made to look blurry, this is both insulting to the original cameraman and technology, also to the viewer that often remembers the clip and knows fine well it was far superior than that!

It must all be down to the "digital is better brigade", of course we all know the true story don't we

Another favourite is that the viewers were huddled in front of their tiny TV screens which displayed flickering pictures. What flicker? I thought interlaced scanning was used to solve the flicker problem. 25Hz Baird TV system was awful.

Indeed!
Two vehicles that I restored about 25-27 years ago were re-registered, one a French registered 2CV, 1960 AZL was given HSU24A a let down as the suffix letter was wrong. Also a 1967 Skoda 1000MB that had no paperwork was re-registered with an HSR sequence.
I think a lot of re-registered cars land up with old Scottish registrations, perhaps as they were scarce in the first place.
