Having bought one of these Russian Analogue Multimeters at the NVCF for the princely sum of £4, I must say that, as expected, it's a very well made piece of kit, and is working well on the DC V & mA ranges. Looking inside, it seems that it would be possible to modify it to take commonly available batteries such as 2 or 3 AA cells in series, or maybe a couple of CR2015 or similar 'coin' cells in order that the resistance ranges can be used. Has anyone carried out such a mod., and what would they recommend? To use AA cells part of the pcb might have to be cut away, and the original battery compartment cut out of the case, so coin cells would be easier to fit. In the instruction manual the power source is identified as an R6 (316 or 316T) I presume those are the Battery type numbers, which I gather are no longer available. (2nd. Edit- I've just realised that R6 is the correct type no. for an 'AA' Cell, which is definetly no what this meter takes, but in the manual 'R6' is given as the battery type. No doubt this referred to a toally different battery type in the USSR 35 years ago!)
