It is modern enough to be here for sure.
I got it for free back in March and it is a little bit battered with a broken aerial.
It says that it is supposed to run on 8 volts but it worked fine on 7 volts regulated without any problem apart from having to solder a bit of wire onto the stub of the broken aerial.
I had a tinker and found that the audio is fine from the headphone socket so I cranked up a pair of mono block valve amps and put it through its paces.
My findings were that all but one station came out at telephone quality so with one exception it was not all that impressive.
The one exceptional station was Radio 3.
Today they trailed a full orchestra version of some Frank Sinatra songs so I had a quick look at my special fix for DAB radio aerials.
Bare in mind that DAB is on band III where 405 line ITV used to be in the 1960s and that the wavelength is a little shorter than FM.
A couple of weeks ago I spotted some telescopic back scratchers at the flea market for £2 and duly bought one and checked it out.
It is made from chrome plated brass just like a normal aerial but is a tad short for FM use but not for DAB so I took the shirt pocket clip off and found a 4mm thread in the end.
I took the back off the radio and found that the stub of the aerial had a flat on it and the wire was just on a square solder tag screwed through the flat into the plastic chassis with a skinny screw.
I found a solder tag and fitted it with the skinny screw in the small hole in the tag and gave it a go and it was fine and it even worked downstairs where FM is awful.
The second half of Friday night at the Proms came over quite nicely with a little audiophools hand to catch the digital audio stream and pull it down into the set
