I found an RF26 unit in original condition at the McMichael Rally in Reading last month. I had no real reason to buy it except that I had used one in a TV set I built out of ex-government radar equipment in the late 1950s. It was only £5 so I bought it, noting that its last mod. was in February 1945 so it might have been used in anger. This morning, I was in the workshop messing with my BT8161 project and I decided to power up the RF26 using the bench PSU. Surprise surprise, it worked perfectly immediately and tuned between 43MHz and 62MHz. No paper caps to let it down and a superb build standard but there again it was built for Bomber and Coastal Command. One odd thing about the unit is that instead of the usual Pye Plug RF input, there is a simple terminal but it looks like a factory installation as the soldered connection is "glyped" with the usual red laquer!
Now I need to decide what to do with it.
