HP DV7 laptop charger - bleeping

Hi All,
I've just tried to recharge my laptop. However, the charger is making a very soft but high pitched audiable bleeping sound. The HP website indicates that this represents some form of short stressing the charger. Has anyone had a go at reparing a laptop charger or is this one destined for the bin?

These chargers are subtle and quick to anger - I used to design SMPSs and, given the cost of a new one, I would just buy a new replacement that had no risk of fire or other hazard !

It may just need a secondary diode replaced.
The thing will be a bit fiddly to work on but you should be able to do it with no more than a diode tester and soldering iron.
A pen knife and small hammer will get the case open.

I think it is always worth having a look ,as with all S.M.P.S it pays to check the electrolytic caps the heat can kill them.
and not a lot to loose .
