Aerial system

Been away in high places in Italy. This aerial stack was mounted close by a ski lift station.

Lots of aerial on there. Some I recognise as line of sight micro-wave and TV reception but others to me are a mystery.

   

So a small topic for discussion maybe?

The horizontal/vertical polarized four dipole jobies look like VHF FM antenna similar to these:

Here's some guff from another manufacturer, they can be configured for various transmission requirements, I think the BBC used these on some of there installations....possibly.

Yes! those you posted look very similar and are intended for transmission. Apart from ruggedness and being intended to last for a long time are there any difference in aerials intended for transmission against those for reception?

Just had to have new TV and FM aerials and this is circular unlike the old arrangement of a flat folded dipole and other bits. Its a much neater arrangement and is probably quicker for the installer to put together.

Not sure what the two "Yagis" are for on that tower, the one to the right looks similar to a log periodic type, the white panel antennas might be UHF antennas.

I'd just put them done as terrestrial TV reception but as you say the one on the right has directors at unusual spacing.

Lower down are ones that look like our old Band 3 antennas of 405 days.

Lot of stuff on that tower.

What about the white boxes right at the top?

If you mean the six boxes Gary, they are panel antennas UHF or VHF I'm not absolutely sure but a lot of that style are used for UHF, I notice that the top and the bottom ones of those panels are slightly offset with reference to the center ones.

Gary, that comms tower looks like the one near Daunei that serves Selva di Val Gardena, if it is here's the TV channel allocations and the broadcasts they carry:

Forgot to say, the comms tower can be found on flashearth, 1148 East - 4633 North the tower will be at the cross hair or near as damn it, I find the images on flashearth a bit better, you can make out the circular platform(s) on the tower.

Yes! that would be the tower. Busy with comms and entertainment.

Not used Flash Earth before: I couldn't see the tower but maybe you are set up for better resolution than me ?
