Nordmende Norma Luxus

Hi All,
I nad a quick look around my 'pile' of round to its for a radio to restore as a quick return (if there is such a thing) as I am busy at work. I decided to have a look at a Nordmende Norma Luxus that I paid about £3 for at Golborne several years ago.

Having taken the back off and blown away a lot of dust, the mains cable was coiled up inside. I connected this to the lamp limiter with no issues and switched on. The marvels of German technology; it crackles a little but is working.

I'm not a believer in cleaning this up as if it were new but to what extent should I do anything with this? As you can see its very grubby inside but I think it a try cleaning up i shall probably disturb something at it will stop working. Whats your thoughts (yes I do need to clean the case and dial glass etc.)

Hard for me to give advice as its not my sort of restoration project.

If it doesn't mean too much to you, you could put the whole chassis through the dishwasher on a "Quick Wash". You could call it a £3 experiment. Nick does PC keyboards like that, lets it all dry out somewhere warm afterwards. May have some interesting faults then but it probably has those already. The alternative is just clean the case and dial and make it work. Leave the dirt and crud where it is after brushing away any loose. Put the back on and say "Job done" and pour a cold beer

I've just noted that the gold insert is missing from the tuner dials. Does anyone had to replace these or come up with an alternative solution?

Its the gold trim (I couldn't think of the word - it must be an age thing).

The annulus round the big Knobs?
This is where your Lathe would come in

Difficult to find those ... big curtain rings, unlikely. Brass wire and make some (well Retired could do it !). Just paint the insert with gold paint ?

Wouldn't bother until its a working radio again. It all depends on how much you want to get into the detail restoring a £3 radio ...
