Fuse inflation!

This is a crazy blown fuse and is marked F1 on the silk screen.
The PSU was a write off.
   
The current limit resistor did not work and had turned to lava.
   
It was supposed to be a good quality one and ended up failing very early.
The Hong Kong replacement has now outlasted it.

I had a simalar one fitted on a tv power supply and it blew the whole pcb the fuse was as useless as a chocolate teapot

I found it quite funny that the heat-shrink around the fuse inflated and contained all the metal vapor and made the short worse.
It was not such a good thing to "tart up" a cheap Chinese power supply for sale in a UK high street store like that.
The original Chinese units have less of this extra insulation in them and better air flow to keep them cool.
Those safety people often get it wrong or put the manufacturer under pressure to get it wrong.
The replacement was an original Chinese unit from Hong Kong and still works fine even though the mains lead was dreadful.
