As usual when I go to places such as Rufforth Autojumble, or vintage radio events, I came away with something last Saturday that I didn't need and until I saw it, I didn't want. But at £2.00 I couldn't walk past it. It's an Eagle K1400 multimeter - I believe that back in the 1970s they were dubbed the 'poor mans' Avo'.
The basic meter movement is 50uA, the scale is 6" by 3" with a parallax mirror. It (allegedly!) measures up to 5kV AC or DC, though I wouldn't trust typical mutlimeter leads at that, and am never going to need to. Current ranges from 50uA FSD to 10 Amps, and there's a DB scale. The sensitivity is 20,000 OPV on DC, 5,000 OPV on AC - typical of reasonable analogue meters of the era, such as the AVO8.
I've always considered the Eagle brand as cheap and cheerful, but I must say that on removing the back, it looks nicely designed and made, with very neat wiring and soldering of the 'switchery' and it seems unmolested. I haven't yet had time to test it - it does need a new battery box for four AA cells side by side, which has to be a certain design for a plastic shield to clip over it. (The old box had rotted away with four corroded leaking cells in it, which have not otherwise damaged the 'works'). I tried the 'usual suspects' for a new battery box (Maplin et al), but none had quite the right design of box, so an exact one to the original is on its way here on a slow boat from China, sourced on e-bay for £1.89 post free! (The meter also uses a 'C' cell but the box for that is fine).
I've searched t'internet for a manual (if indeed there is one), and drawn a blank. All I found was a recent pristine example of a K1400 in its carrying case which recently sold on e-bay for just £10.50:

Bargain!
A bit of a long shot I know, but if anyone on the forum does have one, I'd very much appreciate a copy of the manual.
I've attached three not very good pics.
Yet more 'granddad's junk' to find a place for
