i have now finished the stella 105u.so time for the next one a bush vhf 41
came from the same place as the stella bet its not so easy to repair

I bought one just before Christmas in excellent condition. Great except that it only works on LW, which sounds excellent incidentally. FM not working I can understand but when switched to MW both sides of the tuning capacitor show a dead short to chassis. I must get around to looking at it further, it'll be something silly.

i dont remember ever repairing a vhf 41 before
i am told some one has had a look at this but gave up so i am not realy looking forward to it first job find service data and print it out

I'm not a Bush person, I leave that to Joe, but that looks like an attractive set.

I'm not sure you should be messing about with Bushes young Andrew, stick with your PE80. Then there's the PE60, 39J/H, VHF2D, VHF3D, .....

I like that one because it's nice and small but still AC only and with a Gram socket. Odd VHF IF though.

It's not the easiest Bush to work on, lots of brown Hunts in awkward places. I've only taken mine apart, cleaned it and prepared it for some juice so far but one mildly awkard thing to take apart and get back together, is the FM section.. Second photo.

Could be worse, some of the Thorn EMi sets use am FM module that bolts onto the chassis, you then wire up the various connections and drawstrings. Only probs with the module are the 820k resistors, they go high in value and totally kill the FM module. To fix, you just cannot pop the can cover off and replace, oh no, you've got to physically disconnect the module from the set and get it on a bench to do it. Last one I done needed the string for the tuning slugs replaced at the same time and it's a devil of a job to get the distance between the two slugs the correct length.

Released in 1954, this was the very first Bush valve radio to incorporate VHF,
This is yet one more that is on my wish list.

well good news and bad news.
first the good having removed the back if it has been got at it was quite a while ago
nice covering of dust
the bad news is the side fell off.
no time to go farther tonight as i am worn out

ok i have glued the cabinet back together and removed the chassis
it has had relacement mains filter (blue and white one).
there has been some work done around the vol/mains switch.
other than that it looks original.
my first job will to be to repace the cut off mains lead and change the mains filter for an X2 type .
there is only one wax paper cap but lots of brown hunts at least 4 of which have cracked cases
the cracked ones i will change before power up
