HRO at auction

Looks like a nice unmolested rack mounted HRO and PSU plus set of coils up for grabs if anyone is interested on Ebay, I have no connection with the sale.

Apparently great sets for the time but an ugly brute. SWMBO would never understand if I was to bid and win. But my sort of restoration as it looks unmolested by those without enough experience and skill or the hams who think they can make it work better. So nice that it still has the coil set with it.

C'mon Gary, it's the one for you, I reckon you would do a real good job with that one judging from the stuff you have displayed on this forum, they are not that ugly and are easy to work on, they really pull in the weak stuff when up to spec. When the front panel is refurbishd they look the part.
I would argue that they are better than the Hallicrafters SX28, the tuning mechanism is a dream to use and easy to overhaul, no flimsy stamped out anti backlash gears in the HRO, it's got the Xtal as a plug in on top of the phasing control box, those Xtals are really easy to strip down and clean.
Plug in coils, no wavechange switches to think about, air spaced capacity tuned IF's and BFO Osc. no jamed slugs, ditto for the coil packs, will take a long wire aerial or a dipole, 2 RF stages, a quality tuning gang with a composite material shaft which means no birdies at HF.
