Briggs & Stratton Rotavator Engine

Hi Folks. has anyone a B&S 3HP, 4 stroke horizontal shaft engine.
The one on this rotavator has had an Ali key fitted to the flywheel that has slipped and damaged both crankshaft and flywheel.

In all honesty Ed I don't think it's worth it inless you're very lucky. You're just as likely to finish up with another knackered engine.
A friend of mine had a similar problem a couple of years ago and we bought a new engine off the net. Bolt it on, add Petrol and Oil, pull the cord and off you go.
I think it was around £140.

Hi Alan, There are new cranks for $88 from the US, but my pal does not want to spend the money.

New special shape key now fabricated and some delicate fitting on the shaft; flywheel attached with loctite and being allowed toi cure. Trial tomorrow, it has 2 chances.

I am not sure what locktie you used but if it fails. "Belzona 1111" is the product to use. I have used it on agricultural PTO drives with great success.

I have just Googled and see a large pack at £65 I bought a small pack and IIRC it was about £15 enough for maybe 5 or more of your repair. I think I phoned them at Harrogate Please PM if you need their number. No connection just a happy customer.

Hi Folks, I have success to report, it is now running nicely.
My fitting skills seem to have survived the nearly 50 years since I was a graduate apprentice at Reyrolle. I'll still keep an eye open for a spare engine though.
