More Pi

I have 2 RPis - one from RS, one from Farnell - both early pre-ordered.... One of them monitors one of my beehives, the other is a playground - a good friend is a graphics designer who shares my interest in nixies has designed nice perspex boxes for it (http://raspi.co.uk/?page_id=124)...
Having played with them a bit, I still believe that whilst an Arduino hasn't the same possibilities, AVR/PIC uPs are just simpler to use for small (and not so small) projects. If you need a small embedded Linux SBC, then the Pi is good, otherwise life can be simpler elsewhere... Mind you, the first timne I plugged in the HDMI cable to the TV and the card just booted, it was magic !

I know what you mean when you plugged yours in for the first time, I just sat there with mine, jaw dropped, wondering how such a small thing could produce such an image in a HDMI screen, and have more computing power than the ZX81 I cut my teeth on some 30 years previously. It's having the right effect in schools, kids *are* starting to program again.
