French Vintage Radio Group

I found this group in France called Radiofil so joined up since their forum looked useful. Also, the top level membership (97Euros) also includes two interesting books plus 6 magazines per year.

So the postman arrive today and brought the goodies. One book is a very comprehensive reference of all the known valve, crystal and some transistor sets made in France - about 15,000 sets in total. The photos shows my Radialva and list three variants of the set from 1938 through 1941. This looks really useful for identifying sets of French manufacture so if you find any that you can't ID I should be able to help out.

The second book is basically 'everything you ever needed to know about vintage radio and restoration. It covers everything from basic theory to step by step on how to restore a set. It even has a chapter on building your own modern vintage set. It also has lots of ref material which is duplicated on an enclosed CD.

Lastly the magazine looks of equally high quality. This edition feature article is all about crystal sets. The group website is also pretty neat.

Obviously this community is very well organised in France. I'd better go brush up on my French!

They look useful books John. As I'm very interested in the history of radio I wish we'd do something on UK radios like that French catalogue. I'd heard of the Radiofil group and I often visit the French equivalent to our forums, http://www.doctsf.com/forum/

Looks to be a very well organised outfit John, and the books look excellent.

I wonder what the forum ethos is like - whether or not the moderators act as punctuation pedants, always on patrol looking for the odd slip-up. Be no use using an English QWERTY keyboard with no accents -I'd hate to leave off a cedilla and cause a moderator to have a fit of the vapours, or to find that I've committed an 'infraction'. Still, like all forums, we can always read without posting.

Much easier to read French than to listen to it or try to speak it. EG, the forum stats at the bottom of the front page:

I love the term the French forum uses for 'HELP' - not a direct equivalent ('secours'), but 'je suis perdu' - 'I am lost'. Shades of Bonnie Tyler - 'Lost in France'!

I've been a member of Radiofil since the beginning of this year, but have visited it on and off for a good few years now. I believe the 97 Euro price for the top membership package (6 magazines and 2 hard back books) is about 105 Euros for members located in the UK due to extra postage. There are several cheaper membership options available as well.

As Maitiu says, there are language flags under the title banner on the right hand side which translate the pages.

If you collect French and other European sets it is a very useful website and well worth joining (no connection with the site other than being a satisfied member). The magazine is of comparable quality to the BVWS Bulletin, but all in French of course.
