cossor melody maker 524

next off the to do pile cossor melody maker 524.
I started on this set about 5 years ago as a repair. any way 1/2 way through the guy said he did not want to spend any money and i could keep it.
as it stood i had the am section working abet with hum and distorted out put.
i dug it out last year to put photo in the gallery.
so to start i thought i would tidy up some of the work i had done and change two rs 32 mf caps in the smoothing circiut .
i also found a brown hunts 0.01mf cap that had lost most of its brown coat.
time for some mains.
all am bands work no hum but distorted output.
vhf picks up plenty of stations but at very low volume.
haveing one handy i changed the ecc85 in the vhf tuner needles to say this made no difference.thats as far as i am likley to ge today .
the under chassis view show before and after the tidy up.as can be seen alot of components were changed when i had the first go.

well i have had 4 days off work the weather has been bad and i want to make some room.
as for like being back in the shop, well we used to allow 30 mins to repair a coulour tv (at least the rental ones) if not it was put to the side for when there was a quite period.
so jobs like this would never of been looked at.we stoped repairing valve radios in the mid 70's.
i started this as a hobby about 10 years ago .
it was the start of this forum that real got my interest going again as i never thought that any one would find my expereance
interesting.and i can learn from others.

thiss cossor is going to slow me down i cant decide weather to start on getting the audio stage right or dive into the problems with the low output on vhf i am hopeing its nothing to do with the very long slide switch. i will have to dig the manual out.
(as a last resort read the instuctions )

    one step forward two steps back this morning.
i changed the el84 this got rid of the dstortion vhf is also at a more reasonable level .sadly i have found the wave change switch needs cleaning as some times the is no am .
now the volume control has stopped working max all the time .
hopfully this will be easy
i wll also have to do some thing about the knob for the tuneing ,the original was a clear plastic dual concetric long gone.
ah well the last two were easy
