Bit of a funny this one, anybody had experience or similar?
Eight year old Pioneer XV-DVD424 player / surround sound amp connected to a Plasma set model PDP-435FDE via a separate dedicated tuner box. By todays standards positively old fashioned and pseudo vintage but not a bad quality image considering the amps it is burning and that although it claims to be HDMI compatible its totally analogue with no digital tuner. The DVD player however has a mind of its own.
DVD player, wants to be pick and choose as to what it wants to play. Put in disk A and it plays ok, put in disk B and the player insists that no disk is in the machine. Disk B plays perfectly in another machine, as do all the disks tested. Put disk A back in and it plays. Put in disk C and again fails to recognise a disk in the player, put disk A back in and all ok. No pattern, nine out of ten commercial disks fail to be recognised by the player. Other than putting a cleaning disk through the machine, I'm stumped and at a loss as to why this should be so, especially so as the owner who is a good friend of mine paid a small fortune for it brand new. He advises me that it was always a bit twitchy from new but never to the extent that it is playing up now.
Any suggestions, other than bin the player and get something better?
