Looking for tvs

Not sure if this is the correct section for this?

Where would i find old 1980 tv sets.My thinking to to try and find other Ferguson 22G2 and 51A3 sets and get them for spares.I have never been to any radio/tv meets and iam not sure which would be most benifical to find the said sets.

e-Bay is the obvious this place, along with car-boot and jumble sales.

You could also try the 'Wanted' section of this and other forums, especially the ones which specialise in TVs. Depending on what it would cost you could try asking in local newspapers classified columns.

I was thinking about these radio club type meets.Are they only for members though?

You could also try your local Freecycle, you can often find lots of 80's sets being given away on here.

If you go to the link above, look for a freecycle group in your local area and join that. You'll see instructions and advice on how to join and how it works. The idea is that rather than throw stuff away, you offer it on freecycle. If you see something on there that you'd like, you let the giver know. Most groups operate a 'fair use' policy in which givers are asked not to treat requests as 'first come - first served', but if several people are interested, givers should put the names in a hat to be fair to all. If you join the group you can watch the 'wanted' and 'offered' ads to get a feel for how it works. When stuff is 'taken' you post a 'taken' ad so that others know that it's gone, and obviously say thank you to the giver.

The local group here resigned from Freecycle and started a group called 'Freegle' - I can't recall why, but it seems very well run and moderated. I'm a member but haven't put any stuff on lately and don't want anything so never bother looking at what's on offer. We're often not at home and I found it awkward to arrange mutually convenient times for people to come to collect stuff, so I tend to take stuff to the charity shops, some of whom accept electrical goods, furniture and so forth. (I've taken vacuum cleaners, printers, small items of furniture etc to the shops, that at one time I might have put on freecycle).

You're expected to offer stuff as well as just take it or you may get labelled a scrounger. There's nothing to stop you joining and putting a 'wanted' ad on for old TV or looking to see if any are on offer. The groups are moderated, and the local group seems well run and friendly, and tries to tone down 'sob stories' which start 'I desperately need a...'

I doubt that old tellies often crop up as they're hardly a thing of beauty, and unlike old radios, are bulky and can't be tucked away in the loft and forgotten about, so I dare say most people just skip them. I'd imagine that most of what appears on Freecycle will be fairly modern analogue TVs, notably portables, of no particular note, with CRTs, and needing a set-top box, including older model TVs with no scart socket which need box with with a built-in modulator.

Whilst atm iam ok with the 2 big TX Fergusons .The portable one like the tx 37141 was a nice size .Ours was a silvery grey one .I dont mind the set top boxes for the older tvs as the quality if far better than most modern ones .
