Someone has been in here before, there is a wire off the TX and lots of cap and resistor changes.

               

Just need a kind soul to do a water slide transfer of the dial, my printer is beggard.

By the way the cabinet will need stripping and French Polishing. Should be a nice change.

That was when I was learning to solder with one hand and before I had the Metcal iron. The wire that's off is advised to stay off, as it goes to the centre of the secondary HT side of the transformer, which as I said is faulty.

The AGC comes off that, I think, which is why the set is deaf. What I was planning to do was fit a couple of resistors, 1k say, on the two legs of the transformer, get a pot of some kind and set this for 0 volts, then put the loose wire onto that. See if it worked.

Put that wire back on and it will smoke like hell and it is the transformer, as it had 87v on it before, hence the smoke.

Just had a look at the back of this for the maker. U16 written in pencil. If that is correct it is a Hale Electrical co Ltd one.

I refurbished my dial by hand, rubbed down, resprayed, and used Letraset to replace the print,
It takes a while to accomplish, and a steady hand, but good results can be obtained this way.
