Another Irish Mystery

I have had this mystery set in my collection for some years now but never found out its make or model no. The only info is a plate on the chassis with chassis no and "Made in Dublin Ireland, at Stephens Green."

I wonder if any of the guys have anything on it.

yes joe, i hated it at first and thought it was the ugliest set id ever seen, but strangely it grew on me , and with a clean up and a newspeaker cloth it has a certain attraction for a set of the period just after the 2nd w.w.it has these large red valves, will investigate as soon as i can , regards maitiu.

The only possible link that I could find was Keates Radio, Radio and Electrical Sales and Engineers,
Baggot Street, Dublin, listed as 1950, need to do some more digging.

thanks paul, im really an anxious to find any info on this, , though i do remember this co in bagotts st,they were as far as i know a retail radio and electrical business,

this set and the type of valves fitted suggest mid 1940s,will dig it out as soon as i get a chance, and send the valve line up.
wavebands long ,med , and short wave,design of the dial reminds me of a set my parents had many moons ago, could have been an invicta ???.one of the valves was an ebl31 because i had to replace it, kind regards maitiu.

Pity you cannot see the transfer on top of the cabinet, that might be a big help.
Something tells me this is of similar construction to a Defiant, or Plessey Chassis but not sure.

Hi Paul

The transfer on top of cabinet is illegible except for a v and an a at the end, working on IDing the line up, but don't want to remove any valves lest they fall apart, last time I removed one the top connection disintegrated.

addendum.....hi guys, line up for this set is ech35, ef39, ebl31, az31,first three are red mullard valves, and the rectifier is clear glass, had a scan done on the logo on top , its 'invicta'. and an old chap from the trade has given me a manual of sorts its called an invicta 30, have taken pics of the rear chasis , and will send them presently ,thanks for putting up with my rant, regards maitiu.
