Re: Amature radio hobby etc....ok I am not licenced, just SWL and a lover of boat anchors, but I think that plug and play is popular for many through neccessity, the bands are crowded and interference is getting worse so whichever mode of transmission/reception is used the passband/image/stability response needs to be pretty spot on to get the best, so as a SWL I could build a double/ triple conv. Wadley/Phase lock whatever, supa dupa filters etc etc, that poses the question of cost and time. I could probably go out and buy a secondhand Frog for half the money and just plug it in so it is easy to see the attraction of plug and play for many, it is not my choice yet as I like the challenge of resolving a weak signal on a 70 year old heap, having said all that I am quite interested in possible homebrew SDR/DSP etc. if I ever get the time.
I keep having thoughts of a swept gated IF to extract the signal or am I missing some laws of physics here and totaly nuts! Comments welcome.
