I was in Maplin today and spotted a 50 Watt soldering station on offer. It had been £32.99, but is on offer at only £19.99 - a saving of £13.00. The offer is on until 24/12/2011 and they're in stock. I generally use a 25 Watt Iron, but occasionally it's not up to the task of unsoldering such things as ground tags on chassis, where the tag is punched out from the chassis, which acts as a heat sink. Hence, this 50 Watt temperature controlled iron seemed to fit the bill so I bought one. It's quite robust, as is the stand which comes with it. The temperature range is from 150c - 420c (300F - 790F). The melting point of 60/40 tin/lead solder is 215C (419F). Quite handy to have the iron switched on low, and to turn it up as needed. For those who fret about damaging ICs through static, the station has an anti-static ground output to which you can connect a writ strap. The Order Code for the iron is N78AR, which comes with one tip, and a pack of 3 assorted tips available separately (Order Code: N79AR).
You can find the iron here:

Hope that's of intererst.
(I've no connection with Maplin, other than as an occasional customer).
