The fortunate acquisition of an affordable Panasonic RF-9000 has led me to rather more SW listening lately than I've done for a while. I soon chanced upon http://www.shortwaveschedule.com/ which makes identifying stations an absolute doddle with a synthesized receiver like the Panasonic - enter a frequency and you can see what should be a full list of all the stations currently broadcasting on it anywhere, with the language they're currently using. Or choose any station and see when it's broadcasting in each language and on which frequencies. I've been pleasantly surprised by the scale calibration accuracy of a couple of vintage multiband transistor sets too, Grundig Satellit 5000 and Braun T1000-CD both from the middle '60s. The Voice of Greece on 9420 kHz broadcast a long programme of regional music the other evening, I'll be investigating whether that's a regular feature as it was distinctly to my liking and after a while was echoing around the room from the three receivers already mentioned plus a Panasonic RF-3100 all at once.
The RF-9000 is a wondrous piece of kit, sensitive and with frequency stability too good for any shortcomings to be apparent, but I'm still looking forward to thinning out the front room's radio population enough to take a regular spin on an AR88LF I've had for thirty years.
