Early last year, after we'd taken advantage of the Gevernment's '£400 off a condensing boiler' offer, I needed to balance the radiators on our 13-rad system, and although I have an analogue surface temperature meter and a range of probes, it's a bit tedious to use. I spotted that Maplin had on offer a digital infra-red thermometer that just needs to be pointed at any surface to give an instant readout from -35 C to +365 c. Normally £39.99, but on offer at £19.99. I bought one, and it's proved very useful - not just for the original task, but such things as checking the temperature of transformers and valves. It has a built in laser pointer to help with aiming the beam, has auto-hold and auto shut-off, and can dispay in degrees C or F at the touch of a button.
I mention this now, as I notice that these are on offer at Maplin again, and I thought it might be of interest to a few on the forum. You can see it at this link:

I've no connection with Maplin or any other outfit, other than as a customer.
Hope it's of interest.
