Stranger things!.

So, I was given this with a pair of speakers I bought as a "take this as well". Obviously home made but is it to a recognised design?. It has 4 bdy56 power transistors, a board with 3 hbf4016ae's and a lm381m ic, apre-amp?. A board withlp1185 & 1186 modules, ca1310e ic, so a stereo decoder?. The front panel has a 'pot' with led and 4 leds with touch sensitive pads marked tune, 2, 3, 4. (radio 2,3 & 4 with fine tuning maybe?). Three more pads with pu, radio & tape. Balance & vol' control, power on/off. Rear panel has 2 din type speaker outlets with toggle switch, 2 din inputs of different configuration, a coax and single banana type socket which goes to one of the power amp boards, it's green so an earth?. 2 of the boards are covered in links so home made. The 2 power boards are marked 'lindsley hood 75w'. Off the rectifier are 2 fuse holders minus fuses. What say I connect a couple of sacrificial speakers, an mp3 for input, put in a couple of low (very low) rated fuses, check my life insurance and plug it in. What could go wrong!.

AH! just found it!. The John Linsley Hood design. But with mod's.

Considering the complexity of the design, it looks pretty well built.

Use dummy loads rather than speakers for the first smoke test. Actually you don't need any load at first, transistor amps run happily without.

Nice find,somebody's put a lot of work and money into that amp and done a nice job too, well worth a listen. Is that the 75W amp that was in ETI? I'd do a quick short test across the PSU before powering up, might save a lot of work and tears later, Andy.

I'm pretty sure the Lindy Hood amplifier was published by Wireless World, I have a book called 'High Fidelity Designs' it contains reprints of WW articles and I think it is in there.
I'll dig it out from shed storage if there is any interest ...

Thanks for the info. I've come across a great site, www.keith-snook.info who has down loaded many articles from WW including designs from Linsley Hood, July 69 & Sept 71 on amplifier design, too technical for me!

Sorry I have to close this subject now, I succumbed to an offer on ebay and it's now on it's way to Australia. I've been having a clear out and half the stuff is going abroad, mostly China. Now that could be a discussion point!.
