A modded Cossor 54

The power to the boxes that sit on top of the valve screening cans is fed with a wire from below the chassis.
The ground comes through the screening cans. The caps either end of the cans are just push fit. So any rust can affect the connection.
Both the cans and boxes were rusty.
Four of the caps are riveted to the bottom of the boxes and under some of the rivets was rusted.
In the past and I would think after the cans rusted the caps were spot soldered to the cans to make the connection.

I disassembled the valve screening cans and boxes and after a few attempts I nickel plated them.
It should help the ground to the boxes and I might not have to solder the caps to the cans.
In places they have a lot of pitting from the rust.
       

I also plated the audio output transformer bracket. I have fitted its tone correction capacitor and associated resistor which were missing.

Before I cleared away the electroplating gear I made some covers for the boxes from a biscuit tin. Which I plated to match the boxes. My metal bashing isn't great but they are functional.
   
The top cap screen for the 420TDD was badly corroded with some of the plating missing.  This I cleaned and plated.

I tried zinc and nickel plating. I find it easier to get good results with nickel.
Like a lot of things preparation is the most important part. The piece been plated must be spotlessly clean.
