Majority Oakington dabs/cd player

We've had this for a couple years as the day to day radio and cd player. I switched it on today and the display is blank albeit the radio and cd still works. Its completely useless with out the display working - any thoughts at all??

I think I might agree. Its a real shame as it still working well BUT with no display its impossible to use. I will have look inside, but it appears its been constructed to have a limited life span.

It might be the backlight.
Have you pointed a torch on the display to see if there is anything there?

Could be the backlight, its an LED in them.

I had to Google this - I'd never heard of "Majority" as a brand.

I noted one customer review on Amazon mentioning a 3 year warranty. It might be worth exploring exactly where you are with that. It looks like you needed to register it on the website to claim the extension to 3 years. Do you remember doing that?

I also noted that according to their website that they are a young-ish UK company who make a lot of marketing capital from their green credentials. With that in mind, they really ought to be able to repair it rather than have it end up in landfill. As has been said, it's probably just the LED backlight gone dim, so an easy and cheap fix for them. It's likely the whole LCD module needs changing, as changing just the LED(s) isn't usually practical. They probably won't sell you the spare part, but they wouldn't be living up to their marketing if they couldn't repair it.

But if it's definitely not under warranty, and they're not able to repair it for a sensible price, then it's a question of whether the display module is available at single quantities to a member of the public... Impossible to say without opening it up, but I wouldn't do that until you're sure Majority won't help.

If all else fails, send it back to them rather than putting in the bin yourself. They are obliged to take back products that are faulty or no longer needed - and they have to dispose of them properly, at their cost. So if they can't help you to fix it, at least leave them with that problem!

They can be contacted easily - hello@majorityradios.co.uk - you don't say if you've spoken with them, but that's what I would have done in the first instance. And if the results are good, then it would be good to have some positive feedback about a young UK company.

I have been in contact with Majority radio and I checked my amazon orders - it was purchased Dec 2017 so out of the 3 year warranty!! They were helpful UNTIL I told them it was out of warranty and then they indicated they couldn't help at all!
Its annoying as the unit is working and sound really good albeit I cant change channels etc. When I get a mo I will take the back off and have a look.

You have some rights under the Consumer Rights Act for up to 6 years from buying something. These rights are always against the retailer, not the manufacturer. Here's a good article: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclai...-exchange/

In your case the retailer may be Amazon themselves or a 3rd party reseller. You need to check.

You may not get any redress but it may be worth a go, using the methods mentioned in this article.

The screen is a mono LCD and will need a backlight - it could as simple as a loose cable or the backlight dying (not unknown). If the RF and DAB side is OK, I suspect the fault is localised to the display. Do the buttons on the front panel work? Are they on the same PCB as the display? Localise the fault...

If it's not the backlight etc. you could ask the manufacturer for a spare - it's not that expensive a radio (as these things go), so if it is the display and it's not too pricey, repair it yourself!

Hi,
I took off the panel underneath the radio and pulled out the CD player. The circuitry is very small using bar type resistors etc., so for me it appears unrepairable. I switched it back on again and no display but when I when I shined a LED torch to the face of the display its possible to see changes so perhaps the back light has failed!
