Axial film capacitors

It's routine to use the Vishay/Roderstein "yellow peril" axial fim caps when restoring vintage kit. Either bare or disguised according to your taste. But they are getting more expensive. I was browsing the Mouser catalogue and found a possible alternative. This is the 100n 630V part:

Under 50p each in 10+. Obviously you've got to order enough stuff to get free delivery but that's not usually difficult.

I can't see any problems with them. What do you think?

Happy to help. I can't imagine that Mouser would stock poor quality parts, any more than RS or Farnell.

I've got pretty good stocks of many values of yellow caps. I bought lots a few years ago when Farnell(?) were getting rid of loads of ERO branded 1813 caps at very low prices. This may have been when Vishay took over the parts.

But it's always good to find alternative suppliers at good prices.

If you search for axial polyester capacitors on Mouser you are spoiled for choice. Even restricting the search to 0.1u in voltages greater than 250V lists 21 parts in stock with quite a few at 630V.

Many unfortunately are not stocked, for instance no 1nf 630v at a reasonable price, I've very few left and could be doing with some.

That range is good value. Curiously the low values like 1n are more expensive than 100n.

Just bought some 10n 630v axial's from Digikey,similar to these - https://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail...ND/5410458 which are a lot cheaper than the Vishay axial's and look the same as the ones you got Jeffrey . I ordered a few bits from Farnell too, mainly nuts and screws, the two orders came to about £100, order arrived from Farnell & looking at the small pile of stuff on the floor it doesn't look like 60 quids worth - 3 mosfets, four banana jacks and several bags of nuts and bolts....60 quid???

Moan over, HV axials for under 50p is pretty good. Andy.

The 100 caps I ordered are due tomorrow. The order is sitting in Stanstead and in customs. I sincerely hope I'll not be hit with duty. If so that makes the cost higher than Rapid etc and even JustRadios!

Digikey and Mouser are meant to be sent all duties paid. I forget the INCOTERMS designation for this. The idea is to make it as easy to order from them as from RS or Farnell. I think they have UK VAT registration and the legal entity that supplies you is in the UK.
