This is the other radio I got last week. This was off e-Bay and I won't say how much I paid as I like BrianC and don't want to upset him
I will just say that it was cheaper than a chassis only which sold a few hours previously, though it worked out a bit dearer due to higher postage.
I was keeping my options open for it. If it was a write-off I should still get some useful spares off it, I may keep it or, given how little it cost, I could even sell it on and reinvest the profit.
It arrived this afternoon and the case proved to be in disappointingly good condition which rules out ideas I'd been having about customisation - maybe the next one.
I haven't thoroughly assessed it yet but am pleased to report that it doesn't work so I should have some fun sorting it out.
When I first tried it through the limiter it started to get very bright very quickly. I gave it five minutes through the 15W lamp but that had no effect. Chopping out the filter capacitor brought the current down to a sensible level but it doesn't work.
I've already found that the 10KΩ HT smoothing resistor is down to 7KΩ which may not be unconnected to my finding the voltage selector was on 210v.
It's now had a clean so I should be able to see what I'm doing tomorrow.
One point I feel it is important to make is that the power connector pins are connected the opposite way to others I've seen which proves the importance of checking this before connecting. As I haven't got another connector I intend hard wiring this one in any case.
And so the collection grows and the space diminishes.

but don't worry about upsetting me as I am terribly thick skinned.
