Hi. Decided to recap the time bases today. Also noted a crumbling resistor which turned out to be the 3.3k feed to the line blocking oscillator, I was really surprised the line started at all, as soon as I touched it, it disintegrated!!
So after I tested it all again, lo and behold a very good picture, I've yet to do the Tuner/IF and the height control is broken so these need to be done.
Very pleased with an excellent tube.

Even if the rest of the set had only been skip fodder, that good CRT alone would have been well worth the money.

That is 'some tube' Trevor!  As it happens, I recently also acquired a TV24C, and am attempting to re-purpose its TV43-style RF/IF deck as a sync bottom 'competing signal' monitor (for BHTG application).  One day, I hope to put the deck back and restore the whole set. If the tube's like yours, that will be a big bonus!

The set was found on a side street off Gorgie Road in Edinburgh.

I remember Pitrie tubes being exceptionally good and the tube in your TV24C gives testimony just how good the tubes were.
Perhaps Pitrie was a brand name used by one of the main tube manufactures?

Having a common vision and sound IF amplifier followed by two stage IF amplifiers should ensure that the performance of the type 63 receiver unit will be excellent.
Early production receivers had IFs of 34.5Mc/s vision and 38Mc/s sound. Later production type 63 receiver units had the BREMA IFs of 34.65Mc/s and 38Mc/s.

This is a very late version with the main caps marked Mar 55.
I'd have thought it would have been discontinued by then.

I know Ferguson continued to make the 12" model 998T well into 1955. Like the Bush TV24C the Ferguson "Twelve Plus" model had a self-oscillating line timebase. The 12+ model was the set with the gold painted mask.
Sobell was still making a 12" set in 1954, the model T224.

Considering that the majority of the wax capacitors on the main deck were seriously leaky, (not caused by the washing of the chassis incidentally) there will also be many in the receiver deck as well.
There is 25 decouplers between 1 & 3nf and other wax caps that will no doubt be leaky too so a full and careful recap could further its performance. These must have been very good sets in their time.
No doubt in really weak signal areas they would have performed well and even later on a 30L15 would improve sensitivity over the PCC84. Next work will be done on Monday all being well.
