Following the discovery that the tuning knob, kindly supplied by Fixitnow, was different to the broken one on this KB OB10 radio, I decided to attempt a marriage of the new knob with a 6mm center boss and the old and very odd center boss socket from the original broken one.
The spindle boss is considerably larger and splined internally to fit on the tuning capacitor spindle extension which has the pilot lamp inside.
The brass ring and center bright were released easily from the new knob and cleaned with fine sandpaper, they were too badly corroded to just polish. I will polish them later after fitting as they are a little thin and fragile.
The spring ring was removed from the 6mm plastic socket and the socket part removed completely down to the bottom which left a bevelled recess in the inside center of the knob.
The remains of the broken knob were ground down to leave the boss with a matching bevel to the new knob center. This was then epoxy glued into the new knob being careful to match the original length and ensuring it was central and truly perpendicular to the knob body.
The brass ring and bright were reglued with impact adhesive to the knob face. the pointer and the spring tension ring refitted to the knob boss.
The pointer has to be set horizontal with the tuning capacitor at one end of its travel.
And this KB OB10 Minuet has a tuning knob indistinguishable from its original.
Thanks to all that have contributed to this tricky repair. Now I need to fix the radio and clean and polish it all.
