Had an interesting fault on a Roberts R600 which had travelled throught the post, fully working before transit commenced and arriving in an undamaged box. Symptoms were complete loss of volume when the volume knob was moved from side to side so first instinct was a damaged/worn pot and not going to be a Servisol job. Relief transpired when a barely noticeable, even through a magnifier, dry joint was spotted on a wire link from the pot to the circuit board at the pcb end. As the link was rather tight beteween the two parts I suspect continous use of the control and a postal journey had put strain on the soldered joints so a longer wire with some play in was fitted. The repair was a success with happily no need to repair or seek out and replace the pot!
