Yet another item with a blown Mains Suppressor Cap.  This measured 27 ohms, and, when I managed to extract it from under the wiring to the mains transformer, it had literally blown, falling apart as I disconnected it!

Which 'scope is this - the PM3305?

The earlier ones in this range used a different sort - cylindrical - which seems to be fairly reliable. IIRC, that's the type in your PM3215. But they mostly use the dreaded RIFA types, hidden under the sheet of FR4 material on the rear panel. There is a rectangular cut-out in that panel which always confused me - until I saw one of the earlier cylindrical types, which fits into the cut-out.

Ah - that's the PM3055 - a different beast to the PM3305 that OS mentioned in a recent thread...

The cap. was a RIFA one, Mark. It's in the PM3305 that I left opened up on my bench before the Bank Holiday weekend. It will hopefully work when i reassemble it, that's if several years in the Cellar hasn't caused any further problems. However I'll still get the one you kindly provided to my workshop. I admit to being curious as to what the fault in the 3305 was. (Might have guessed had I known that a rectangular RIFA cap. was fitted!)

Retrieved from upstairs, my Philips PM3207 oscilloscope that was taken out of service many years ago.  It's in a rather bashed up condition.  
It might be fixable.

It will most likely clean up apart from the mains filter capacitor.

The 3305 in my Cellar cleaned up pretty well, although some of the external trim needs further attention.

Having replaced the blown RIFA Cap. & checked the PSU, I reassembled the 'scope (minus it's case) only to find no display other than an out-of-focus green blob on the screen, barely visible with the illumination switched off, plus a couple of jammed controls, so several years in the Cellar haven't done the instrument any good.

That is a pity.
In my pervious address my outside workshop was damp especially in winter. I ran a small electric heater and a dehumidifier which helped a little but on the onset of the rainy season I'd move valuable test equipment etc indoors.
I always remember being a boy and dreaming about an Avo 8 or a scope, so when I was able to afford such luxuries I always made sure they were to the best of my knowledge kept safe and away from damp.
