Hi Chaps.
A good new year to you all when it comes.
I had a chat with David Simpson this morning and we discussed the receiver. David thought that it was possibly a BEME in disguise but looking at his thread on the cat queens it is quite different. I actually think this may be more rare than .the BEME sets.
I am going to construct a linear PSU for the set over the next few days but thereafter I'm not going to be around so much as Anne is going for major surgery on the 11th so I'll be her carer for a good few weeks.
I'll post up some pictures of the set after tea.

I had thought that at 13mA the DL92 anode current was a little on the high side. With an HT voltage of 67.5V that should come down a bit.

It is high! And the DL92 is not exactly a wimpy valve either, it packs more punch than the DL96, for instance, but it guzzles more mA so definitely will clobber the HT battery. It seems a bit extravagant in this radio to use the '92.

    As you can see - I'm back in the fold. Yours is certainly a lovely sturdy built set. I'm dying to learn the history of the company. My two BEME sets came with a re-stuffed VIDOR 90V HT battery and a re-stuffed Ever Ready AD4 1.5V LT battery each. But one of the Vidors is loosing its oomph, so will think about re-stuffing with rechargeable PP3's.

Hi Dave.
Good to see you around here. One of the problems is the sets history. There is nothing on the net and the person I got it from (Joe Urban in Anstruther) has sadly left our shores. I know Joe did a lot of work for fishermen in his time and I wonder if the whole thing was perhaps his own creation. A serial number of 5 has been etched on the side of the chassis and that's it no other markings. The coils are identical to those used on the Codar CR66 hence the reason I got short wave to work.
The meter and switch on the tip of the case are additions that have never been connected.

The label says "Sea Wave", then DF Unit below that. Just wondering if it was possibly part of a larger installation. Looking at the metal cabinet work, it seems to be hand built, with a good coat of Hammerite paint job. However, the antenna unit looks factory built. Have you removed it Trevor ? There might be a manufacturer's name stamped on the underside somewhere, which could help trace who supplied the kit. I vaguely recall that Heathkit, or a similar DIY company, used to supply RDF radio kits years ago.

Hi Dave.
Yes I've had the DF unit dismantled. Nothing on it at all. The ferrite rod is 8mm thick with two wave wound coils. It looks professional though.

Interesting radio, there are a whole lot of RDF receivers on this page http://www.angelfire.com/space/proto57/rdf.html but I cant see your one there.
My own Seafarer International "Seafix 2000" has a frequency range of 191 to 423 kHz. What is the frequency range of your one.
My Seafix 2000 still works and has a very precise null to pinpoint the TX station. It has an 11 transistor circuit and includes a beet frequency oscillator to give a constant tone to help "DF" the transmission, then you switch to "Ident", to listen to the station identity signal. The top mounted compass is also very useful for taking sight bearings.
