Radio Caroline 648kHz

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I thought it might be OK as it does have a rather vintage flavour to it.
I have been able to receive Caroline on 648Khz as well as the Manx feed.

I just happened to be listening to Caroline on 648 when they read out your reception report, your name is so unusual it had to be you.
Later I tested 1368 kHz and after dark could just make out the Manx Radio broadcast, very much in the background. But the transmissions from Orfordness are quite strong on 648 kHz in the afternoon.
I have to admit the current music on Caroline is not to my taste, I prefer the Caroline Flashback web radio.

Blimey Mike.
That was quick. Half an hour ago I was back in the shed and Caroline is now blasting in here, it does though have a long fade but even at its lowest it is perfectly listenable to.
For 1Kw ERP it is quite amazing here, I do pick up a lot of BBC locals here but nowhere near the strength of Caroline. How brilliant.

Hi.
I have been listening to Caroline on 648Khz for the last half hour on the Dynatron T99 tuner fed into my Mullard 3-3 test amp and 10 inch speaker. There was no fade outs and the the magic eye was just about closed, the tuner sensitivity was on the lowest setting. For AM the audio quality is superb, very little compression if at all.
I tell you this is how AM should be done, for 1Kw it is quite amazing, even through the day I have just about got a listenable signal.
The whole experience reminds me of listening to Luxembourg on 208 meters, although I have to say Caroline is a far better signal than I ever had from Luxembourg in Ayrshire many moons ago.

Yes, I heard it as well tonight at around 7:20pm with a steady S7 signal strength on my Kenwood/Trio R5000. I'm a few miles south of Trevor also in Ayrshire and I agree about the signal quality.
I also picked up some adjacent stations :- two foreign ones on 639kHz and R.Wales on 657KHz but Caroline was the strongest and clearest !

Just having a listen on 648 but well down in the mush here in Hucknall Notts, I can just make out the music. Will have a listen after dark & see what reception is like..

Still a listenable signal here today. Long wave especially is full of Europeans right now which is unusual for mid day.

Well I had to go out in the Limousine today and switched the radio to 645Khz and was amazed that Caroline was very good. Drawing into my driveway the signal dropped but I have noticed this before, no doubt all the junk in our house!!!

I tuned in last night but SWMBO had the telly on & the hash drowned it out, I was thinking of taking the radio down the garden but it was very cold last night, so I thought better of it. Will try when it gets a bit milder or the telly's off. I don't like the cold, I'm a wuss...

Me too, hate the cold. Its been just 2c in the shed and it takes an age to warm up.
