Unkown Radio Model

I bought this radio at Harpenden yesterday and cant find any model with a speaker fret like this one.

I have been in contact with Aerodyne, who was the person who carried out the last restoration of the radio, and he confirms that the speaker cloth was replaced and the cabinet refinished with a very dark finish.

It has an additional knob because, I believe, it has been altered at some time in the distant past with an additional separate volume control, possibly because the original combined reaction/volume control was faulty, as was the one in my KB 333.

The cabinet looks like it was professionally made and manufactured with fine fitting finger joints along the top corners.
I have searched all the information I have on KB 1930's radios and can find nothing like this.

Google Images seems to think it is a floodlight of some sort
My suspicions are that this may be a radio made by KB and sold under the STC brand.

Can anyone on here help with information on the radio.

Quite a pretty set, there is a lot of free space inside for a commercial construction.
By "finger joints" do you mean dovetails or comb joints? Either would suggest to me that it is a well built 'home' made cabinet.
Most radio makers used half lap joints, often pinned as well as glued.

Yes it appears you are right, most of my KB radios have either a solid wood corner piece, or a half lap joint in the ply reinforced with a fillet in the corner. But I have at least another 2 KB radios which have finger or "comb" joints. (all of the same era, 1933-34)

It would take a serious piece of tooling to make these joints, it also implies the cabinet sides and top are made from solid wood as opposed to the normal ply.

The KB 333 has a solid wood corner with a wood fillets behind.

Could it be a "bitsa"? The cabinet from one maker and the guts from another? Looks like a factory made cabinet (as Mike says, you need tooling to make those corner joints) though just possibly a kit. You could fit all sorts of different chassis in there.

Touche Mike, they look very similar. 
How about the turnbuckles that hold the back on? They look odd being on the stretcher feet, not on the top, is your other the same?
Making comb joints is a breeze, they are done with a jig and router bit. They were even cut with a wobble circular saw. They became popular because they are easier than dovetails with a power tool. To my knowledge, they were not hand cut, unlike the craft man's dovetails. Chippendale it aint!

During this era it was very common for KB to put the turn-buckles on the bottom, the back fits in a slot at the top, but on this radio back is missing.

I have posted this same request for help with identifying this model on UKVRRR.
Over there I mentioned my suspicions that this may be a radio made by KB and sold under the STC brand. STC branded radios were not too common and I think limited in the number of models. I have two in my collection and have come into possession of information on about half a dozen others.
I think there is a similar theme to the angular pattern of the speaker fret work, particularly the last two seen here from 1932.
Does anyone else think so?
