My grandfather made one of those earlier. When he lost interest in it in the 1970s it ended up with me.

My approach will be the wooden box type with screw in frame. Hopefully find some large transistors. Definitely use a speaker. Lots of busbars. Old circuitry from end of Fifties. The other day I scavanged a transformer, a small motor, some electrolytics and some small speakers. The transistors were tiny. How things have changed! Not sure why today the emphasis is on miniscule size. It's an industrial perspective.

This year I worked slowly but every day. Sawing timber, plumbing in water, painting, filling and so on. I built my first basic wheelhouse and I sometimes knock together bird boxes to give to women as garden presents. When Winter arrives I have a lot of practical radio work so the work on the boat now needs to be solid. 2 days ago a deck timber beam cracked when I stood on it so I had to redo the whole thing. I learned always to use roofinng screws as they have a hex head. Not sure I"ll have time to do the solar this year.

Turns out the Roberts Rambler uses siiicon transistors. They must be much easier to substitute than germanium. I spent some time around Jan and Feb trying to find my own supply of GE transistors. This turned out to be more difficult than I imagined. Of course I still raid thrown away items for whatever I can get. Yesterday I obtained a mains transformer and a 12 volt motor as well as scores of tiny transistors. Sometimes I desolder.
