My workshop

Hi All
After a year of faffing around due to work and other commitments I think I'm finally ready to use my new workshop. With the help of a couple of friends I pulled down the old rotten shed and replaced it with my new 'workshop' last Feb 2016. Its 12' x 6' 6" being smaller than the last one so that I can get all of the way round it and apply wood treatment twice a year. Its fully insulated using eps sheeting, with an 1" air gap and breathable membrane to the inside of the wood. I've then lined it with 5.5mm ply. The roof is lined with jablite and lined with ply too.
It was constructed with good ventilation the the eaves to which I added some fine mesh to stop any unwanted bugs from getting in.

Heating wise I've a 1 metre tube heater which is pretty much left on all of the time and hold temps at about 17 to 19 degrees centigrade. i had to suppliment this with a small oil filled radiator which I had running at about half power during the Winter, and still kept temp between 16 degrees upwards.

Humidity hasn't been a problem yet between low 40s and 50ish% when I have been working in it, and I have a small Unibond aero 360 dehumidifier which I have emptied once, half filled, in about 4 months. It only heats up when I am working in it (all my hot air!!) so a do have to circulate air with a fan.

I'm really looking forward to start working in it for electronics work, the garage being for everything else.

Nice shed Rob, very bijou. You'll have to be organised to get all your bits and bobs in. It's about the size of my workshop which I HAVE to tidy now and again or else I can't move. Which saves accumalating too much stuff.

My WS goes from baking hot in summer as it has loads of windows and clear plastic roof, to bloody freezing in Winter. I use a TEK 585A as a heater without the trace on the CRT. Wish it was as controlled temp wise as yours.

My workshop, which is in a 300-year old Cellar, is also full of clutter, and needs a good clear out/tidy up, both of which will happen 'when I get a round tuit! No windows, so I work in artificial light for 2 -4 hours at a time. Cool in summer, not too bad in winter, though I have an electric heater to help out then. On a couple of other forums (fora?) -UKVRRRDF & Vinyle Engine - I've recently posted some pictures of a Pro-ject turntable on my bench, which will give people an idea as to how cluttered the place is!!

Hi.
I have had to slim down a few times over the years, snag is I have three quite bulky TV's in the collection that I'll never part with. Also my shed has been getting a bit worse for wear, it's battered by strong winds and gales where it is sited so last year I had to reinforce the inside of the shed in places with OSB board. This has improved the rigidity no end but I have lost a little space.
It is quite warm in winter though and I can use it and potter about as much as I wish, better than watching some of the rubbish Anne watches on the telly!!!

Mine is not looking the best right now. It has a big scar from a roof repair that could do with finishing off this summer. There are three jobs lined up that need the same set of tools. they will be done in a batch.
It is a spare bedroom so has a radiator.
I have lots of half done restorations all over the place too.

I know that many may think its only a glorified 'shed' but since I've moved more and more onto it I have been really worried about the risk from a potential fire and loosing some valuable test equipment (to me) etc. I've been thinking about installing a linked smoke detector with the house. Has anyone else set something like this up? What did you use? Or do you think I shouldnt bother at all??
