Megger 500v needs intructions, leads and fixing

I have a Megger in the mottled Bakelite case that I have never used. 
I need an instruction leaflet and some leads, the side holes for the leads look unusual.
The needle is drifting around in the middle,should it?
Has anyone managed to fix one of these?

The needle should drift until a measurement is made. It's not a conventional spring loaded movement.

Hi Sam, leads are connected like some modern terminal blocks
Push button above hole, stuff lead in hole, release button. A good low resistance contact.

It should have a switch on the side that may say ohms and insulation or some such. Select desired range, connect leads and crank handle. Pointer should quickly settle at circuit reading

Thank you guys, not used to these manual digital devices. It would seem that this one is without a switch.

Took it to bits today, and it is bits.


The 3 securing posts on the  generator were all broken off and had been crudely glued.
There should be 3 brass washers between the case and the generator on the bolts, there was only one, the other 2 had been put under the movement.

The movement is free running but there was a lot of slack in the bearings. The bottom one is spring loaded but the slackness allowed some sideways movement. I adjusted the top screw gently and it allowed more free movement of the rotor towards the infinite end of the scale.

The 5 pieces broken off the generator and the main body were scraped free of the nasty glue, washed in acetone  and the whole put back together with super glue.
The capacitor just about passed muster, a bit of leakage at 200v, the resistor is within spec, the 3 coils OK, so the whole was reassembled.
It now flies to short circuit and makes it more sedately to the infinite end, so it will be OK.

Replaced the capacitor.  Was 0.1uf @1500v, I replaced with two  0.1uf  650v in series as that was all I had to hand that would fit, works much better now.
The glued repairs are working well, its still in one piece.
