Still stuck on FM but volume is way up and switch is now making contact. Clearly the HT circuit to my Oscillator is still broken but hopefully further intervention may restore that.

Struggling with German, so I am. Here is the clue "Vorkreis für KVMW"
Can't find a definition for this word "vorkreis" and it was listed on the schematic as "vorkreisvariometer". This is all connected to the ECC85 double triode, the oscillator being set to 10.7 MHz as part of the FM circuit. Can't seem to get a dictionary to work on my phone. Any translations ideas?

It seems to be used to describe an aerial tuning circuit. For example, see this AEG example: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/aeg_vorkreis_a_a_iii.html Martin

My German is almost non-existent, but 23 years working for a Blaupunkt Main dealer means that I do recognise terms such as 'Vorkreis fur KWMW' and 'vorkreisvariometer', which are basicaly 'precircuit of SW & MW' and precircuit tuner' respectively. The word 'variometer' can refer to permeability tuning, as employed in VHF tuners, and most Car radios, anfd, AFAIK, to Variable Capacitance tuning, as used in most AM & SW Domestic Radios. Incidentally, for those unfamiliar with German terminology, ZF (something like 'zwischenfrequenz', IIRC) = I.F., and NF = AF, whilst mains frequency = 'netzfrequenz', and a plug is a 'stecker'

Thanks, guys. You have been most helpful. I can now move ahead with the schematic. I realised this week it would do no harm to better understand the higher IF and terms such as UKW I never met in older receivers. Russian language has huge resources online such as Linguee but I found little help with German and a Blackberry phone is limited by more modern scripts.

In case you haven't already worked it out, UKW = Ultrakurzwellen. Literal translation is Ultra short waves. What we would call VHF in English.

Yes, I did find that out. I found it helpful to simply relate the oscillator frequency to the metres of the radio waves. In fact I just noticed my Soviet VEF goes down to 13 metres. I think the UKF starts somewhere beyond 30 odd. Megahertz. Last night while walking my dog, I winded up getting curious about Earth years vs Light years and then Relativity. We take radio waves as the maximum speed as you know but what's interesting is that earth years related to light years alters time. So for me a 30 MHz frequency is pretty awesome but still trails the speed of light.

This site might help with English translations of German technical terms.

Earth years are a measurement of time. Light years are a measurement of distance. They can't be directly compared, any more than you can compare minutes with feet.
