Called round to a customer today to take a look at a Samsung LCD TV which won't accept HDMI input from an Amazon Firestick. Performed the usual Samsung set-up procedure , that is, first standby followed by the sequence: "info - mute - menu - standby" to access the engineer adjustments. HDMI proven to be active. Last resort was to set the receiver to "reset" thus returning the set to shipping condition. After performing the adjustments still no improvement. The set does recognise the Firestick because on inserting the device the logo "Amazon" briefly appears and then the screen goes blank. After unplugging the device "no signal" appears on the screen. The set was made December 2007. Could it be the set doesn't handle latest versions of HDMI?

HDCP problems? Common enough.

2007 is quite old for a set with HDMI so it could be a version problem.

Hi.
I really think Jefferies last sentence sums it all up. At your age you don't need the aggro nor all the worries of a shop that eats into your money. Really can't get my head round why you accept aggro virtually every day of the week.

Quick fix! Use an HDMI to PAL converter. Tried this trick this evening and it works, the converted to PAL signals are connected to the phono sockets designated as "AV" Picture quality is excellent.

Hi Trevor,
not so sure about that but no matter how I tried to make the Samsung work with the Firestick inserted into either of the two HDMI sockets all we could get was the logo "Amazon" followed by a blank screen.
Yesterday I took delivery of another HDMI to PAL converter, again, it works fine with the Firestick.
