Hello everyone

I have retrieved a variable tuning cap from an old chassis that somebody had acumulating dust in a corner. This cap is something very strange for me as it has three sections. That is not strange as the Selena has three sections too.

What is strange and unknown (at least for me) it's that it also has aditional independent plates on each section. This sub-section has just a few plates, for lower capacity.

What is the purpose of those sub-sections? FM tuning?

I would share some pictures but I have not "discovered" how to do it yet.

I'd need to see photo, but it could be for VHF OR RF preamp tuning.

I think it's just a regular 3 gang (RF preamp, RF tune on mixer, LO Tune) with some vanes ripped off on each section out to reduce the capacitance.

Looks like six separate tags for six separate stators to me.

Could belong to something like the Pye 39J/H which has Bandspead Short Wave Bands.
The Gang is 10pF, 490pF, 10pF, 490pF, 45pF and 490pF.

Definitely six separate stators. I've seen something like to this in an old Zenith (I think!) that I repaired years ago, can't remember the model but it was built around WW2 years. As Alan suggested it had multiple shortwave bands for easy tuning. Maybe this is from an old US built set Miguel?

I have a Pye 39, it's not like that! The PE80 is very similar, I have it too.

That tuning cap originally had 3 sections, it's just that some of the rotor and stator vanes on each section have been removed. It looks like the stator bars have been cut and extra tags fitted. It looks like a home brew MW + SW made out of a MW only part.

I think it was manufactured like that....What can be noticed about the rotor in the center section of the tuning gang in the 1st picture?

I don't know what sort of '39' you have but this is the one in my A39J/H.

The A39J/H is the only one I can easily get at, but I'm pretty sure it's the same as the ones in my 39J/H, 39J/H Chassis and PE41.

As Lawrence says, it has 6 Stator Tags so I think it's a similar configuration.
